Raymond S ieg / 2023-05-15

Introduction:

         1. In Genesis 1 we read about the beginning of all things, including motherhood.
         2. Mother's Day is an especially appropriate time for us to consider "a brief history of motherhood."

Introduction:

I.           LET  US  FIRST  REVIEW  THE  6  DAYS  OF  CREATION  (Genesis 1)

         A. (vs.3-5) Day 1: light [Day and Night]
         B. (vs.6-8) Day 2: the firmament [Heaven]
         C. (vs.9-13) Day 3: dry land [Earth], the Seas, plants
         D. (vs.14-19) Day 4: the sun, the moon, and the stars
         E. (vs.20-23) Day 5: marine animals, birds
         F. (vs.24-31) Day 6: land animals, man, and woman
             1. Man and woman were made in God's image.
             2. They were instructed to multiply and fill the earth.
             3. At this point we understand that a woman is a female human being whom God made in His image
with the ability to produce another human being.

II.          EXTRA  DETAILS  ABOUT  THE  CREATION  OF  MAN  AND  WOMAN  ARE  REVEALED  IN  GENESIS  2

         A. According to vs.4-5, there was a void in the earth before God made man.
             1. We learn from vs.7 how God made man.
             2. This man was responsible for filling that void (vs.8, 15).
         B. According to vs.18-20, there was a void in the man's life.
             1. We learn from vs.21-23 how God made woman.
             2. This woman was responsible for filling the void in the man's life (vs.24).
         C. The Creation was completed when God made the woman.
         D. Notice the condition of the Creation at this point (Genesis 1:31).

III.         THE  WOMAN  BECAME  A  MOTHER

         A. The woman's name [Eve] has a special meaning [life, living] (Genesis 3:20).
         B. We know the names of 3 of her sons (Genesis 4:1-2, 25).

IV.         THE  WOMAN'S  SEED  WAS  THE  SUBJECT  OF  A  VERY  SPECIAL  PROPHECY  (Genesis 3:15)

         A. At this point Adam and Eve had sinned by eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
         B. God punished everyone involved -- the serpent, Eve, and Adam.
         C. This prophecy was made while God was punishing the serpent.
         D. It was fulfilled many years later when Jesus came to earth (Galatians 4:4-5).

Conclusion:

         1. We have considered a brief history of motherhood from the Scriptures.
         2. In the Bible, women and motherhood are highly regarded.
         3. Let us always remember and practice the words in Ephesians 6:1-3.
